“Brian’s an architect who paints in colour and photographs in black and white.”

Brian’s sketches, drawings and paintings are fluid and expressive; they are experiments with colours and textures to convey mood and emotion.  His ink studies, inspired by calligraphy and architectural composition, explores different inks, pens, brushes and techniques.  His acrylic paintings, with their bold strokes and palette knife cuts, explore the richness of pigment and layering, whether trying to capture the feeling of dense cites, or the calmness of lush landscape or the sharp chilliness of glaciers.  His paintings are executed at speed to capture the freshness and spontaneity of the strokes and made in a series to mark the development of a theme.

Brian’s sketches and paintings have been widely published in books and magazines like Alastair Little and Richard Whittington’s Glenfiddich prize winning book “Keep It Simple” and “The Modern British Cookbook”, Sir Terence Conran’s “The Essential House Book” and “Conran on Design”, Richard Whittington’s Glenfiddich nominated “Cutting Edge” and “Home Food”.  He has designed the label for Mommessin’s 1,000,000 bottles of 1996 Beaujolais Nouveau.  His work has been exhibited at the Royal Institute of British Architects, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Business Design Centre, The Phoenix, Architektur Forum in Zurich.  His work will be on show in 2022 as part of Zoe Zenghlis exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh.
